Modern and urban for Canadian women
Toronto, ON - Early one Friday morning, Laura Polley (president of a film finance company) attempted to book a Shiatsu massage appointment for the same day. After hours on the phone to various local spas and relaxation facilities, she was informed that the therapists were "not in today" or that all appointments were booked weeks ago. Frustrated with the current selection of trendy facilities and disappointing treatments for busy urban women she called one of her four sisters, Rena Polley, and expressed her dream to build a women's facility in Toronto offering the best treatments from her extensive travels around the world.
Having visited Bathhouses and Spas in places such as: Italy, Australia, Germany, Amsterdam, all over the Caribbean, Los Angeles, New York and more, Laura decided to "take the best qualities from all my experiences and fuse them into one place." Taking the centuries old tradition of bathing or 'taking the waters', SPA is an acronym for "Salus per Aquam" or "health through water". After thorough research, Laura also discovered that there wasn't a single facility in Ontario that offered the newest trend in spas - health by water. She knew she had to bring this age-old tradition to Toronto and make it modern and urban for Canadian women.
With that, Body Blitz was born and will soon be unveiled to the public in November 2005. Situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, Body Blitz, a women's only urban water spa will be housed in a century old warehouse space on Adelaide St between Spadina and Bathurst. The space is over 10,000 square feet with brick walls, heated cement floors and a wooden beamed ceiling. As Rena says, "The minute you walk through the door you will feel like you have left the city behind and entered an urban oasis." Body Blitz goes above and beyond breaking the mold of the traditional spa. Not only do they offer treatments unique to Canada (based on Asian Bathhouse principles), they will also hold 30% of all appointments each day for same-day bookings for women who are too busy to predict free time in advance; giving women the chance to call on a Friday morning and be in a treatment room that afternoon.
Body Blitz offers the first water therapy pools in Canada including: a warm sea salt pool (98 degrees), hot detoxification tea pool (102 degrees), cold dunking pool (50 degrees), steam, infrared sauna, as well as body treatments of scrubs, muds and massages that can be mixed and matched for individual preference. You can access the waters only, or include them with your treatments. Body Blitz will also offer a Juice/Tea Bar based on the properties of the treatments (Ruth Brown from Juice for Life/Fresh as consultant).
Prices range from as low as $35 for the waters alone to under $200 for 'The Works' - an hour and a half tip-to-toe thorough scrub and massage. All treatments will use products made exclusively for Body Blitz and allow women to select their own scrub or mud from our unique mud and scrub bar. "We're over stimulated in this world. I want to relax in the waters, get a treatment, not TALK to anybody while it's being done, feel great and get out. It's simple, but I just couldn't find it here. I'm not a SPA expert, just a regular woman who needed a good treatment and couldn't find it..." (Review by Julie Register)
